Angels We Have Heard on High (Congregational Accompaniment)

Lyrics & Information
LyricsAbout the song...
Angels we have heard on high, sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply, echoing their joyous strains.
Gloria in excelsis Deo

Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be which inspire your heav’nly song?
Gloria in excelsis Deo

Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing
Come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn King
Gloria in excelsis Deo

In this arrangement, the organist plays from the hymn book (#203, Hymns, LDS 1985), and the congregation may sing the parts as written or in unison.

The piano accompaniment is written for one piano, four hands. Neither the primo nor the secondo is too challenging–one of the delightful things about four-hand accompaniments is the impressive sound you can get out of easier parts.

The obbligato is specifically intended for flute (or piccolo if you have a large enough congregation and powerful enough organ), and will probably not work well on other instruments.

I am wondering what program you use for the transpose/resize function on Angels we have heard on high? I would love the violin sheet music and I can not get it to work on my computer

  2.

Just discovered these congregational sing-a-longs – what gems! So excited to use them this year! Thank you!!!!

I can hardly wait to use this for our final hymn this Christmas. Thank you for making my calling possible to accomplish. Your accessible music at no cost is the answer for our choir. This arrangement is so powerful and beautiful and we will be able to use talented pianists that don’t always get noticed or appreciated. This is the answer! Thank you, thank you!

Many, many thanks for all the wonderful music. I have used this as the final hymn for our Christmas program a number of times, and I will use it again this December. Do know you bring joy to many music lovers who both sing and listen to your music.
