This little arrangement was born of necessity. While looking for accompaniments for our Christmas sing-along, I couldn't seem to find one with enough "punch" to satisfy me. This one, as you might expect after a comment like that, has only one dynamic level... loud. (Wesley wouldn't approve. He apparently wanted gentle music for these lyrics. Mendelssohn's setting probably wasn't what he had in mind, and I've just made it worse.)
The score can be used in a couple of different ways. It makes a nice piano/organ duet, with all the tricky parts falling to the piano and the organ playing the basic hymn. It can also be used as an accompaniment for either choir or congregation, singing from the 1985 LDS hymnal, or from the half-sheet linked below. If using the hymnal, you'll need to verbally warn the congregation that the rythm is doubled for the last "newborn king," like this:
