Angels We Have Heard On High

(Congregational Accompaniment)

In this arrangement, the organist plays from the hymn book (#203, Hymns, LDS 1985), and the congregation may sing the parts as written or in unison.

The piano accompaniment is written for one piano, four hands. Neither the primo nor the secondo is too challenging--one of the delightful things about four-hand accompaniments is the impressive sound you can get out of easier parts.

The obbligato is specifically intended for flute (or piccolo if you have a large enough congregation and powerful enough organ), and will probably not work well on other instruments.

Lyrics

Angels we have heard on high, sweetly singing o'er the plains,
And the mountains in reply, echoing their joyous strains.
Gloria in excelsis Deo

Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be which inspire your heav'nly song?
Gloria in excelsis Deo

Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing
Come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn King
Gloria in excelsis Deo
