"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6 KJV)
    This song weaves Isaiah's well-loved verse into a modern lyric, keeping the verse intact and in order, though omitting "and the government shall be upon his shoulder." I figured only Handel can do justice to that phrase. My apologies... "called" is only one syllable in this selection--I'm sure many a choir member will try to make it two. :)

    It's offered here in two keys for solo voice, and in a version for SATB choir. It was composed in the higher key and I like it better there, but since I couldn't possibly sing it there myself, I figured a lower version was in order. The optional notes in the solo versions for the phrase "Till all the world believes" are included to give the singer an easier melodic line.

      To praise the Prince of Peace
