About the Composer

One of the things I've discovered
about myself as I've grown up (?) is that I'm fairly predictable.
I like to stay at home; I would rather watch a favorite old movie
than try a new one I might hate; my concept of the ideal vacation is taking
the phone off the hook for a week and watching my garden grow. Now, don't
pity me--boring is comfortable. It does, however, make it difficult
to think of things to say on a page such as this. So I've listed
a few less-than-serious things about myself that might not send you to
sleep on the spot. If you're interested, read on. If not, be thankful browsers come with "back" buttons. -- Sally DeFord

I was born in Eugene, Oregon, where people rust instead of tanning.
I currently live in Colorado Springs, where people fry instead of tanning.
(We average 250 sunny days a year. Drop in and bring your sunscreen.)
(We also have the dubious distinction of being the birthplace of shredded wheat. Drop in and bring your appetite... ??)
My earliest musical training included watching Lawrence Welk with my grandmother, and afterwards listening to her practice on the accordion*.
(Grandpa used to sing me to sleep accompanied by his banjo.*
Quite a cultured heritage I've got...)
*Click here for a few old pictures. Yes, I was "born in black and white." :P
I attended BYU, got married, had kids...
and that's when my education really started.
(We have four children, but the youngest--a BOY!--counts for three.)
My husband and I once won a trip to the Super Bowl in a grocery store contest. We sold it. For obvious reasons.
(For money too. It was the Redskins vs. the Broncos. Guess who won?)
I was in the same Sunbeam class as Danny Ainge.
It's my only claim to fame. Pitiful, isn't it?
(I suppose that means I'm old enough to retire--from the NBA anyway.)
I live in snow country and have never been snow skiing.
(How do you spell chicken?)
I am the world's least photogenic individual.
(It took my mother two years to convince me to put a current picture in cyberspace. **sigh**)
I once tuned a piano with a crescent wrench.
(Not an activity I'd recommend...)
Every time I attend a BYU bowl game, the Cougs lose.
(Let's just hope there's a bowl game to attend this year!)
